Adding insult to injury: To make a bad situation even worse, especially by treating someone very badly.

Last week in London, former Irish Taoiseach Bertie Ahern was asked by the House of Commons select committee how Ireland feels about ‘re-joining the UK’ as a solution to the Backstop in Northern Ireland. “The Republic of Ireland should just leave the European Union and that would solve all the problems” he was told. Considering the turbulent history of British rule in Ireland for over 800 years, a question like this isn’t surprising from these pompous cretins.

Taoiseach: From Irish/ Gaelic, literally: leader, prime minister. Pompous: A person who is arrogant or conceited, self-important jerk. Cretin: A stupid, vulgar, or insensitive person. Oppressed: Subject to harsh and authoritarian treatment.

There were many bloody wars and rebellions against British rule in the 1600s and 1700s. There were also smaller scale rebellions in the 1830s, 1840s and 1860s. Including – The Troubles 1968 – 1998. During the 800 years of British occupation, Ireland was oppressed; it suffered mass starvation and emigration. Now as a quick Brexit fix to the Irish Backstop and as a solution to the single market and customs union they are asking Ireland if they want to return to the U.K. – For what?

A customs union is different from a free trade area, which means no tariffs are charged on goods and services moving within the area. The single market is a broader agreement that encompasses the free movement of goods, services, capital and people.

As part of the Good Friday Agreement, both sides of Ireland saw themselves becoming more European as a compromise to the years of killing. Now with Brexit, all the hard work could unravel thanks in part to the “mess” the British Government is making of Brexit.

The Good Friday Agreement (1999) binds the British government on several points of law in Northern Ireland; it has de facto become a part of the Constitution of the United Kingdom. It is also an International agreement between the British and Irish governments (the British–Irish Agreement). De facto: In law and government, de facto describes practices that exist in reality, even if not officially recognised by laws.

Ireland didn’t ask for Brexit, Europe didn’t ask for Brexit, The U.K. did! But to get them out of a hole and rather than leave Europe without a deal, they find it easier to put the focus on Ireland for not making changes to the backstop. By allowing these changes effectively means a return to violence. Backstop: Is essentially a safety net if there is no Brexit trade deal. It would avoid a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Also, it would ensure that no "tariffs, quotas, rules of origin or customs processes" would be applied to UK-EU trade. But it is unclear if the UK would be able to strike free trade agreements with other countries while the backstop endured.

The Brexit results were: England and Wales voted to leave. Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to remain. Any changes to the Peace agreement or future of Northern Ireland can only be made by the will of the people, not by Westminster. Of course, there is a quick and easy solution to all this, where a no deal Brexit can happen, without a backstop or staying in the single market: Give Northern Ireland back to the Irish – Can’t see the United Kingdom doing that. Can you?

Another major part of the problem is the arrogant dysfunctional, dictatorship coming from Brussels. The European Parliament will have to make changes or the U.K won’t be the only country wanting to leave. I still think Brexit is good for the U.K; Europe needs the U.K, more than the U.K needs Europe. Yes, at the beginning there will be job losses all round, the stock markets and currencies will nosedive in the first few weeks, but will recover. Nosedive: To collapse; to fail.

Therese May and her shambles of a government couldn’t even organise a shipping company to import goods in case of a no deal. The company they had contracted didn’t have or never had any ships, to begin with. This is just another example of how inadequate her government is. Gran Britannia, more like Gran Titanic!!

Shambles: Chaos, mess, muddle, confusion, disorder, disarray, disorganisation, havoc.

Whatever the outcome only time will tell: For now like the Titanic it has hit an iceberg: If or when it will sink remains to be seen!

Until next Tuesday – Be good.
